A small correction:
Paris subway did not open until 1900
But Glasgow opened in 1896

Therefore:
....to follow the example of London, Glasgow, and Budapest........

Yes, and if I recall my history, part of the original greenline was modeled after the original Budapest subway-which the sea shore trolley museum has an example of the original trolleys.
