Activity 2: The Fate of Indian “Praying Towns”

Ask students to imagine what happened to the Christian Indians during King Philip’s War. Then Read aloud or share key points from the excerpts from “John Hoar’s Stand.”

  1. Why do students think the colonists treated the Christian Indians so badly?
  2. What might have been a reasonable and fair solution to the conflict?
  3. Can students think of other instances in history when innocent people were imprisoned in this way (such as the internment of Japanese-Americans during WW II)?
