Dr. Hunt is buried at Mount Auburn Cemetery. Her grave is marked by a large standing statue of Hygeia, the goddess of health, carved by Edmonia Lewis, one of the most significant American sculptors of the 19th century. Lewis was half African American and half Native American. Her works include a bust of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (also buried at Mount Auburn) and a large seated statue of Cleopatra. It seem so fitting that a pioneering woman physician is memorialized by the work of a pioneering woman sculptor.
